How it works

You invest

  • Invest from £100k into the fund(s) of your choice from our pre-vetted selection.
  • Choose from multiple funds after completing one KYC process.

Dot creates a Feeder Fund

  • Our investment is subscribed to a dedicated Dot Feeder Fund for each Target Fund (the fund you have chosen to invest in).
  • This structure is tax transparent.
  • Investments are aggregated.

The Target Fund invests in assets

  • Once the round has closed, the Target Fund will deploy capital and invest in assets to generate returns for Dot’s investors.
  • Monitor performance with Dot’s digital reporting dashboard in your user account.

Our Investment Process

Analysing and comparing fund performance requires access to data and analytics systems, as well as the experience and expertise to interpret, as well as contextualise, that analytical output. Dot carries out a comprehensive review of investment managers' processes, covering: Investment Due Diligence and Operational Due Diligence.

Investment Due Diligence

Dot reviews: managers’ experience and expertise, fund terms from key documentation and investment process, including: deal origination capabilities, underwriting funding access, execution and exit strategies, as well as historical investment performance.

Operational Due Diligence

Dot reviews: ownership and control functions, fund structure and regulation implications, operations infrastructure capacity, risk management processes, pricing levels, execution track record, financing access, and counterparty compliance risk monitoring.

How we select funds

Choosing the private funds with the greatest return potential requires sophisticated analysis. This can be off-putting for even professional investors. That is why we pre-vet and curate the funds we onboard to our platform.

All funds listed with Dot Investing have passed a rigorous selection process designed to identify the cream of the crop. We call this process the Dot “MATRIX” as funds are tested against six key selection criteria.

An intelligent system. We named.

MATRIX.

Management team

The investment team must have a successful track record within their strategy and the resources necessary to replicate that strong performance.

Alignment of interests

Fund Managers’ financial and management incentives must align with those of Dot’s investors to create a win-win relationship.

Terms and conditions

The legal documentation and governance processes must be fair and reasonable to preserve and protect investors’ interests.

Return potential

Supportive macro and micro investment environment; the managers’ return expectations are subject to stress testing and scenario analysis to ensure robustness.

Investment process

A comprehensive review, covering: deal origination, due diligence, underwriting and execution capabilities, value add and exit strategies; focusing on excellence, consistency and repeatability.

X factor

We seek to unearth managers and funds with special qualities that make the investment proposition really exciting.

FAQ

1.1

Who does Dot accept as an investor?

Dot accepts qualified investors who meet certain criteria, including a minimum net worth and sufficient investment experience. Due to financial regulation and the nature of the investments we offer, we exclusively accept three types of investors: professional investors, high net worth investors, and sophisticated investors. You can find more information here to determine if you meet the criteria as a qualified investor.

1.2

Can wealth managers invest on behalf of their clients?

Yes. Wealth managers or financial advisors can invest with Dot on behalf of their clients. We provide an exclusive portal for wealth managers to manage their clients’ investments, capital calls, distributions and reporting. Family offices and institutional investors can also invest via their own investment vehicle or a holding company.

1.3

Does Dot provide investment advice?

No. We can answer questions about the Feeder Funds and the Target Funds but Dot cannot provide investment or tax advice, and we cannot provide you with any recommendations concerning your portfolio or regarding your decision to invest. If you are uncertain about the suitability of a particular investment you should take independent investment advice before subscribing to a fund.

1.4

What are the funds offered by Dot?

Dot screens and analyses market-leading fund managers to curate a “menu” of top funds from which investors can choose. We include private equity, venture capital, private credit and real estate funds with varying risk profiles, return expectations, strategies, sectors, and geographies. We will strive to always have available a variety of top-quality funds from which our investors can choose. And if there is a strategy that you would like to see, just let us know and we will find a great fund and make it available on the platform.

Can I invest in a Dot fund through an ISA or SIPP?

At the moment, no. We are working towards a solution that would permit investment in a Dot fund through a SIPP. Stay tuned.
